| Red-tailed Hawk 9.7.26 |
August 17, 2026, was the first day of our the Chicago Quarry HawkWatch, the first official hawkwatch in the city limits. Fall migration started in late August and we have seen a few raptors migrating over our location at Palmisano Park. In addition, we have seen other migrating species, including Cedar Waxwings, Monarch butterflies, and hundreds of migrating dragonflies. There are also many local species that reside at or around Palmisano Park, such as turtles, butterflies, bees, spiders, songbirds, and non-migrating raptors.
Migrating birds and birds of prey documented during August and September at the Chicago Quarry HawkWatch. Links to posts on birdminded.com.
